Navy Veteran. First Responder. Mentor. Leader.
Lawrence Mason is a conservative local resident, Navy veteran, and volunteer first responder who believes that our elected representatives in the General Assembly should lead with integrity and work for their constituents.
Originally from Stillwater, New York, Lawrence served as a firefighter before joining the United States Navy in 2012. Lawrence relocated to Hampton Roads in 2013 by way of his military service. During his active duty service, Lawrence deployed to the European, Mediterranean, and Arabian Gulf theaters for national security missions. During this deployment, Lawrence worked with foreign military services, coordinating operations to ensure our national defense. After service at sea, he returned to Hampton Roads to serve at Norfolk Naval Shipyard, working hand-in-hand with our local workforce at America’s Shipyard. It was here that he was first exposed to the problems in local and state government. Lawrence separated from active duty in 2020 to focus on starting a family while continuing service in the Naval Reserve.
Over the last three years, Lawrence has taken a very active role in government affairs at the local and state levels. He has represented causes in front of our city councils, addressed state legislators, and been an active member of local efforts to hold our elected representatives accountable to the citizens.
Lawrence resides in the Western Branch section of Chesapeake with his wife, Sherrill, and their two German Shepards. He is employed by a veteran-owned small business based in Hampton Roads that provides services to the U.S. Navy while pursuing his Bachelor of Science degree in Emergency Management and Public Safety from Grand Canyon University. Lawrence is an avid outdoorsman and Jeep enthusiast and can be found most weekends off-roading with local Jeep clubs, volunteering with the fire department, or spending time with friends and family.
